Bill Shine resigned as White House Communications Director
Last night, former Fox News executive Bill Shine tendered his resignation as White House Communications director so that he may begin his new job as a senior adviser to Donald Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign.
The Hill quoted Shine as saying in a statement, “Serving President Trump and this country has been the most rewarding experience of my entire life. To be a small part of all this president has done for the American people has truly been an honor. I’m looking forward to working on President Trump’s reelection campaign and spending more time with my family.”
Bill Shine had been the White House Communications Director for less than a year.
Shine had taken the position after Hope Hicks resigned amidst a scandal involving her then boyfriend, Rob Porter, who was accused of domestic violence by his former wife and girlfriend.
Shine came on with his own baggage. He left Fox News when the network was dealing with a flood of sexual harassment and racial discrimination lawsuits, some of which Shine was named.
Bill Shine, who is buddies with Donald Trump’s buddy, Sean Hannity, took the White House Communications Director job soon after he left Fox.
The Hill quoted Trump as saying about Shine’s new role in his 2020 presidential campaign, “Bill Shine has done an outstanding job working for me and the administration. We will miss him in the White House, but look forward to working together on the 2020 presidential campaign, where he will be totally involved.”
Despite Trump’s praising of Shine, there are reports that Shine’s departure is the result of Trump not being pleased with the job that Shine did as the White House Communications director.
During the airing of CNN’s The Situation Room , host Wolf Blitzer reported that Trump “questioned Shine’s judgment on several issues” and “complained that his presence at the White House didn’t result in better coverage.”
Jim Acosta told Wolf Blitzer that it was Bill Shine who decreased the number of press briefings with reporters from other news outlets, while increasing the number of interviews the White House gave to Fox News
